On the occasion of its tenth anniversary, Taverna 41, a restaurant overlooking the seafront of Civitanova Marche (MC), has chosen to renew itself and expand its space with the addition of a new panoramic veranda. This extension, covering approximately 120 square meters and opening onto the garden and adjacent public park, marks a new chapter in the restaurant’s story—one that builds on its identity while maintaining continuity with its past.

From the very beginning, the project set out to blend with the surroundings rather than impose itself, embracing a light, transparent, and context-sensitive architecture that enhances the landscape rather than competing with it. The load-bearing structure and crowning elements are made entirely of green-painted steel, a deliberate chromatic choice that allows the building to visually merge with the surrounding greenery, softening its volumetric presence.

The new dining area stands out for its openness: folding glass doors along the entire perimeter enable a fluid transition between indoor and outdoor spaces, adapting seamlessly to changing seasons and weather conditions. This sense of permeability continues inside, where green steel cellular beams rhythmically punctuate the ceiling, reinforcing the impression of lightness, transparency, and openness.

The roof is made of solid fir wood panels, which introduce warmth and a natural materiality to the architectural language. A distinctive element of the intervention is a large circular porthole window, echoing the round motif of the beams. This is not merely a formal gesture, but a visual and symbolic tool that frames the landscape and fosters a deeper connection between the built environment and nature.

The interior design is defined by a restrained yet refined material palette. The flooring, in a sophisticated earth tone, evokes the natural context and creates continuity with the adjacent rooms and outdoor walkway. The seating, upholstered in light leather, brings brightness and comfort, complementing an overall aesthetic that is both essential and elegant. Vintage touches add character, including a Venetian-style central sideboard, a 19th-century wooden bookcase, and a contemporary painting by the artist duo Dadimani.

The circular motif recurs throughout the project and is reflected in a custom-made dining table with a cylindrical iron base and walnut top.

Particular attention was paid to the lighting design, conceived to enhance the structure and generate multiple levels of perception. Recessed ceiling spotlights provide focused and controlled light, while discreet LED strips follow the rhythm of the ceiling beams, emphasizing their pattern and structure. Iconic Tolomeo lamps complete the space, adding a more domestic and adaptable element that adjusts to different table arrangements.

In the outdoor areas, the original landscape elements and pedestrian pathways were carefully preserved. Native coastal plant species were integrated to act as a natural filter between the private dining space and the public park.

The final result is a contemporary and welcoming space, offering an immersive sensory experience that goes beyond dining—an atmosphere enriched by the recurring circular theme, from dish to table, to beams, to the porthole. Text description by the architects.
