Located in Athens, Apartment 011 is a 50sqm apartment originally built in the 1960s. The renovation focused on two main goals: maximizing natural light and spatial functionality to meet the clients’ needs.

Originally composed of disconnected, dark rooms with poor circulation, the layout was radically reimagined. The bedroom and living area swapped positions, bringing the kitchen and living space side by side. A dividing wall was demolished, allowing light to flow through the newly unified space. The kitchen, once enclosed and dark, now emerges as a vibrant centerpiece, defined by a monochromatic red that sets it apart from the living area and the rest of the common spaces.

Privacy was introduced by repositioning the bedroom entrance, creating a more discreet threshold that separates the private areas of the house from the common spaces. The bedroom itself is designed with a focus on spatial economy, featuring a custom-built structure that integrates bed and wardrobe into a cohesive unit, finished in beige tones to foster a sense of calm.

In the bathroom, a complete layout change improves functionality and maximizes the perception of space. Minimalist beige surfaces meet bold marble finishes, continuing the dialogue of contrast that defines the apartment’s approach.

To further brighten the interior, glass bricks were introduced at the entrance hall, filtering daylight into the once-dark corridor and turning it into a luminous, welcoming passage. A circular porthole window between the kitchen and entrance adds a touch of playfulness and offers a visual connection between spaces.

The entire apartment follows color contrast, visual connections between spaces, and functionality to create a home that is effortless to live in. Text description by the architects.
