Casa BL is a hidden residence tucked away within a quiet, shaded courtyard in Pavia. The spaces of this 18th-century apartment have been reimagined and carefully designed to make the most of its surfaces and heights. The living area features a sculptural block that integrates the kitchen, staircase, and mezzanine within it, along with a variety of storage compartments. It’s an architecture within the architecture that, like a stage set, articulates the living area by defining its various zones: the intimate, lower reading nook and entrance area; the dining and conversation space; and the home office, which overlooks the room from above.

The concept of “space” — understood as the definition of a distinctive, atmospheric environment — takes on a central role in the project. In the en suite bathroom of the master bedroom, a barrel vault encloses a refined and elegant setting where a large arched mirror highlights the monolithic sink that stands, almost like a sacred presence, at the center of the room. Here, as throughout the apartment, the warm tones of clay and earthen hues blend together to create a backdrop for the owners’ art collection. The result is an intimate, welcoming atmosphere that defines the spaces of everyday life. Text description by the architects.
