Specialty coffee roastery | Belgrade, Serbia | 2023
[Studio ENND]

The main task of the intervention is creating a multi-functional space of welcoming ambiance that is at the same time specialty coffee roastery, a place where coffee presentations, barista workshops & trainings are carried out, and also a space for relaxation and visitor’s experience of indulging in a high-quality cup of coffee and good music .

In accordance to make the space brighter, a big part of the upper level slate was removed with the idea to create a double-height space in the front area of the interior. Light spiral staircase was formed as a new communication between the lower and upper level. Back room is used as a storage space.

The street windows are designed as large portals that can be opened wide, which completely erases the boundary between exterior and interior, so the roastery space could become an integral part of the life and atmosphere of the local street. Long curtains as additional layer enables an easy change of atmosphere and full intimacy when it is necessary.

Pale green Italian terrazzo is chosen for the floor covering in the entire space. Color of the terrazzo floor is also associated with the color of raw coffee beans. In the middle part of the space, structural columns are stripped to raw concrete as a contrast to the gentle grain texture of the surrounded walls coated with lime plaster and the tactile surfaces of the furniture made from reclaimed solid wood. Antique carpenter’s workbench is placed in a centre of space and it is mainly used for coffee cupping, but as it is mobile, it could be moved on the side to form vacant space for events and presentations.
