[HAN TÜMERTEKIN]

Abandoned in 1991, the factory has been a matter of discussion for a long time, until a regeneration process started and the brewery turned into a cultural district, designed by Han Tumertekin.

Founded in 1902 by the Swiss Bomonti brother, this beer factory embodies the first modern beer production plant in the Ottoman Empire.

Painted mustard yellow with exposed red brickwork, the building stands as a castle in the old periphery of Istanbul and, as new units were added, it became a popular place with beer-drinking society until the 50s.
